Earthquakes of increasing
Magnitude Shaking the Earth
The incredible increase in earthquake activity during the previous hundred years is one of the most dramatic foreshadowing’s of Jesus's return and the impending judgment of this unrighteous world. Jesus declared, "For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in diverse places."
Earthquakes, like all of the Biblical signs of the end, have been on a steady rise throughout our century. In the first 70 years of the Twentieth Century, from 1900 to 1970, there were 34 large documented earthquakes worldwide, a total of one every two years, representing a great increase over the norm of recorded history. Since then, however, the activity has accelerated to an almost unbelievable rate. In the 1970's there were 17 big earthquakes dispersed throughout the globe. According to USGS records, in the 1980’s there were 1084 earthquakes rated at 6+ on the Richter scale of which 101 were 7+ and 4 were 8+.
The total estimated death toll from earthquakes for the decade was 58,880. The 1990’s saw 1,492 magnitude 6+ earthquakes of which 147 were 7+ and 6 were 8+ and the estimated death toll was 114,646. The new century has increased with a total of 1,484 magnitude 6+ quakes with 120 of these registering magnitude 7+ and 12 topping 8+ on the Richter scale. Total fatalities thus far are 463,860 and there are still nine months to go in the decade as of this writing. ... continued

Earthquakes on the Rise Jesus told his disciples that “earthquakes in divers places” would be among many sure signs that He would one day return to this earth. Today we can know with certainty that many earthquakes in many places around the world are always happening. Agencies around the globe watch for any seismographic activity to report and by doing so have inadvertently helped to back up God’s word as being true. According to the USGS there were about 350 seismograph stations operating throughout the world in 1931; today there are more than 8,000 and data is now transferred almost instantaneously by email, internet and satellite. Some skeptics and scoffers of God’s prophetic Word (who are themselves another sign of Christ’s soon return) use the fact that we have so many more seismograph stations today than we have ever had as a method to explain away an apparent rise in earthquake activity when in fact many science experts agree that earthquake activity in general has remained fairly constant throughout the time they have been able to accurately keep track. For the discerning Christian it’s important not to be thrown off by any naysayers and to realize the Word say’s “earthquakes in divers places” and does not say there will be a significant rise in numbers or magnitude of earthquakes but simply earthquakes will be happening everywhere. So as knowledge has surely increased (another sign) we should appreciate the barrage of seismographic data that is collected daily which adds support to the signs of Jesus’ soon return. So far earthquakes, of this year 2010, have brought all of the world’s attention back to the devastating effects they can have. This year’s estimated number of deaths from earthquakes so far has reached nearly 227,000. This is a number almost equal to the 228,000 lives lost in 2004 when a large quake off the northern coast of Sumatra created tsunamis that devastated nearby coastal nations.
